Class C misdemeanors

Texas has three classifications of misdemeanors. Class C, the lowest, including charges such as:

  • Public drunkenness
  • Bad checks
  • Leaving child in vehicle

The penalty for conviction of a Class C misdemeanor can be a fine and/or up to 180 days of community service.

Class B misdemeanors

Class B misdemeanors include offenses such as:

  • DWI first offense
  • Disorderly conduct with a firearm
  • Child enticement
  • Failure to pay child support
  • False reports or fake 911 calls
  • Indecent exposure
  • Prostitution
  • Terroristic threats
  • Minor drug possession
  • Vandalism

If convicted of a Class B misdemeanor, you may face up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000 and/or up to three years of probation.

Class A misdemeanors

Class A misdemeanors include:

  • Assault
  • Burglary of vehicles or vending machines
  • Cruelty to animals
  • DWI second offense
  • Violating terms of protective orders
  • Perjury
  • Possession of a firearm in violation of a family violence order
  • Public lewdness
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unlawful restraint

If you are convicted of committing a class A misdemeanor, you face up to one year in the county jail, a fine of up to $2,000 and/or up to three years of probation.
